Enhancing Preservation: The Synergy of Modifying Agents in Optimizing Embalming Chemical Performance With Damon de la Cruz

The topic of this meeting is how calcium and similar ions can have a negative impact on embalming.  We will start with discussion the goal of embalming.   Next, we will discuss how calcium and magnesium can find their way into the embalming process. We’ll explore the chemistry of these ionic compounds to see how they affect embalming and then we will look at how certain chemicals block interaction of these ions.  We, also visit other modifying agents such as humectants and surfactants and their role in embalming. Finally, we will discuss where optimal chemicals for preparation of a decomposed body can be found.
